so far behind
catch up or die

I let it get so beyond me

and time drains out through my feet
pooling on to the floor
I'd always hoped by now
to know so much more

I just wanted to lay in the grass for a week
facedown, no one around for a week
cause I know with my head in the dirt
time can't be passing on earth

and when I put a pen to paper
there's not much I can make it do
my hand shakes with such a tremor
to even get out one word or two

from down here it doesn't matter
any more than the soles of your shoes

but I really wish it would
